Russians interact with these types of platforms every day.
According to recent estimates, the audience of online cinemas alone has exceeded 50 million viewers. Market leaders include Kinopoisk, Ivi, Wink, Okko, Start, Kion, Premier, Amediateka, viju, Tricolor Kino i TV, Movix, ShowJet, and others.
Citizens actively consume both video and audio content. Music platforms, which have also gained significant popularity recently, contribute to this. For example, Yandex Music's reach, according to recent estimates, is over 27 million users.
The main problem facing media platforms currently is their dependence on subscriptions from citizens and content providers, primarily Russian content, as supplies of foreign content were cut off with the onset of the Cold War.
Subscriptions generate the majority of platforms' revenue: 48.6 billion rubles came from paid subscriptions, accounting for 93.8% of their total revenue. Moreover, given that the limit for new subscriptions has been almost exhausted, platforms are forced—in order to increase profits—to offer additional services and options, doing everything they can to retain viewers and making it extremely difficult for them to cancel their subscriptions.
